IMPRESSIVE Vintage NAVAJO CONCHO PENDANT - Turquoise Sterling Native American
Spectacular, large, simple and dramatic example of Navajo Native American artistry. A big oval Concho, or Shell shape in Sterling silver engraved with a beautiful design of radiating lines in a sunburst pattern - around one large oval sea-green turquoise natural gemstone. The Concho is a traditional theme in Navajo jewellery. There are signs of surface wear and tarnish, adding to its character and beauty. Stamped on the back with JC, the Artist's signature. the pendant has a nice large bail for any kind of chain or cord you may want to use. Would look fabulous worn just as is, or polished up... we leave that up to the new owner!
The "radiating sun" design signifies the Navajo desert sun beaming out in the Four Directions of Native American spirituality and connecting to the ancestors and the Earth.
Weight: 22.5 grams. Measurements: Height of Concho - 6.55 cm / Width of Concho: 4.6 cm / Height of entire Pendant including bail - 7 cm. Turquoise gemstone is 2.2 cm tall x 1 cm wide. It has a smooth rounded surface and is set in a tooled silver bezel raising approx .8 cm above the base of the Concho. The Concho is a scalloped, oval, slightly domed shape. As this is a Vintage item, there is tarnish on the Silver and signs of wear as you would expect from an older piece of Native jewellery... many consider this to be a "sign of character"! Polish to taste or leave the patina as is.
